About Us
June 24, 2022, was a “red letter date” for pro-life Americans. In truth, it was a date that many never thought that they would see in their lifetime. It was the date that the Supreme Court of the United States of America rendered a decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, the monumental January 1973 decision of the Court that established a woman’s constitutional right to have an abortion. In its June 2022 decision on a matter that had originated in the state of Mississippi (i.e., Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization), the Court returned the power to regulate abortion away from the judiciary branch and back to state and federal legislatures. Roe v. Wade, a decision that resulted in the deaths of tens of millions of innocent lives, was dead.
In the days and weeks leading up to that decision, we at Daybreak were often asked, “What will you do if Roe v. Wade tumbles?” The question naively assumed that abortion would end with Roe’s demise, and though we had no idea exactly what the Court’s decision would be, our response was always calm, measured, and resolute. We said, with unwavering confidence, “We will continue to do what we have always done – provide physical support and sincere Christian charity to all facing either unplanned pregnancies or those for which they are ill- or under-prepared.” Simply put, the tumble of Roe v. Wade would not, and did not, change the mission of Daybreak. We exist to share the love of Jesus with mothers and fathers expecting babies, regardless of who they are or the circumstances under which they come to us. Abortion or no abortion, we are here, as we have been since 1983.
We believe that life is precious because our Creator determined it so, and therefore we oppose the horror of abortion. In addition to those God sends our way who are inclined toward terminating their pregnancy, there are many who have no such inclination. They want to give life to their baby, but they come to us acknowledging that they need help. So, we share with them the gifts that our generous donors have shared with us: e.g., diapers, wipes, formula, clothes, strollers, etc. But perhaps most importantly, we share the hope of the Gospel and the Lord Jesus’ promise of a full and satisfying life for all who come to Him in faith. Donor support allows us to do the work, a God-honoring work that sees lives saved and the well-being of our community and our nation expanded.
